FAQs

What caused the fire?

--At this point, it looks like the fire started in a boiler, in a closet above the gym.  The fire suppression system did its job.  The alarms went off and the fire was doused by the system.  This is why we have water damage.

Will we have to make up the school days missed?

--We are working with OSPI and the State Board of Education to make that determination.  It is possible that we will need to make up these days.  If that is the case, we'll look at our calendar for possible dates, and get that information to staff, students, and families as soon as possible.

When can I come up to school and get things out of my locker?

--You can come on Thursday, December 6. Please check in at the main office.

What do I do if I find damaged property in my locker?

--We're working with the district leadership to set up a system to check school materials, including Chromebooks for damage caused by the fire, smoke, water, etc.  Students will not be responsible for any damage caused by this situation.

What kind of damage did the fire cause?

--As mentioned above, the damage is primarily water and smoke.  The girls' bathroom under where the fire was is also damaged.

When can we come back to school?

--School will resume on Friday, December 7 at the regular time.

Please keep in mind that we may need to adjust these answers as further information becomes available.
